Antonio Camacho y Joaquín Castillejo inauguran el I Encuentro Internacional de Protección de Infraestructuras Críticas

Joaquín Castillejo, TB•Security CEO, opened the I International Meeting together with Antonio Camacho, Secretary of State Security.

“To be able to face the rising threats towards critical infrastructures, which are each day more intertwined, we are in need of a national strategy with policies and a lsolid legal frame, in which governments, critical infrastructure operators and technology providers work together for the common good. Global procedures in risk management are essential for this, as well as adopting suitable measures and training mechanisms. In this sense, the development of Security Operations Centers – SOCs- or Computer Emergency Response Teams –CERTs- can be of great help to face cyber attacks, as ENISA and the European Union recommend.” This was the statement made by TB•Security CEO Joaquín Castillejo at the opening of the I International Critical Information Infrastructure Protection Meeting.

Representatives and experts of different countries (USA, UK, Spain, Holland among others) were present at the meeting, as well as national (OCS, NICC, DHS USA, CNPIC, CCN, INTECO, etc…) and international (EU Commission, ENISA, NATO, etc…) organizations and some of the main critical infrastructure operators (energy, financial, transports or telecommunications fields).

The Secretary of State Security, Antonio Camacho, was in charge of opening the Meeting. There he stated: “It is not enough to protect physically the sensitive infrastructures. It is necessary to make their communications networks, essential for their working, secure and invulnerable.” The threats that loom over these networks come from human errors as well as from natural disasters and intentional actions. Delinquency, organized crime, political and industrial espionage and terrorism, all have set their target on cyberspace.

The omnipresence of the ICT sector and its transboundary and transversal nature, as well as its each day more intertwined systems are the main causes for the new risks and menaces that loom over them. The keys to face these threats will be the establishment of global procedures and risk management, as well as adopting preparation measures and mechanisms, like the ones that provides TB•Security.

Joaquín Castillejo is conscious of the importance of all involved agents being integrated and cooperating. He made the audience know this during the opening: “Critical Infrastructure Protection of any company goes farer than their own interests and requires a public - private cooperation in which governments, operators, critical infrastructure providers work together for the common good.”

This work for the common good responds to the nature of Critical Infrastructures, whose protection, as the CEO of TB•Security understands it: “Involves a greater responsibility than ever for the private organizations in charge of operating CI. Any incident or problem suffered by their systems can have serious consequences for the general population.”

The seminary, framed within the Spanish Presidency of the Minister Council of the European Union, created a discussion forum in which public and private entities, as well as national and international, debated about the different assets that affect critical infrastructure protection.
